Overview
The pulse oximeter and heart rate sensor is a 12C based biosensor that uses MaximIntegrated's MAX30101 pulse oximeter and heart rate module. Responsible for all testing, we provide a Qwiic connector that can easily connect to a 2C data cable, but you will need to connect two additional lines. This motherboard is very small, measuring 1 inch x 0.5 inches (25mm x 12.7mm), which means it can fit well on your fingers without being too bulky. MAX30101 uses its internal LED to reflect light back from the arteries and arterioles in the subcutaneous layer of the finger, and senses how much light is absorbed through its photodetector to perform all sensing. This is called photoplethysmography. In order to fully utilize the sensors, we have developed an Arduino library to easily adjust all possible configurations. The Qwiic connect system is an ecosystem consisting of 12C sensors, actuators, shields, and cables, making prototyping faster and less prone to errors. All circuit boards that support Qwiic use a universal 1mm pitch, 4-pin JST connector. This reduces the required PCB space, and polarized connections mean you won't make the wrong connections.
